The 2009 Re-Union Weekend,A Weekend Full of Entertainment and Fun, After being treated to A World Class Performance on the Saturday Night with Ray Lewis and The New Drifters,the Audience filed back into the 'Venue' for The Annual Sunday Lunchtime Adult only Show' after eating Lunch the Show Started at 1pm Hosted By Chris Chambers Who Looked Resplendent and Immaculate as ever,Jordan Stratton opened the Show with a Michael Jackson tribute,Surely the Entertainment Industry will beckon for this Talented Young Performer,Henry appeared next with a beautiful version of 'Bring Him Home' from Les Mis and recieved a Rapturous round of applause,a great voice for such a young man!!!. A veteran of every Re -Union Show was next on Piano, the ever popular LEE RANDALL. Variety was def the order of the Day as the Attractive LUCY HARVEY treated the Audience to a Number played on Sax and a Vocal Number form Queen. Geordie Entertainer ALAN ROBERTS delighted the audience with his Vocals and fast patter delivered in his own Style. Showstopper Szara King looking as stunning as ever proved once again why she is in such High demand on the Cruising and Cabaret Circuits,She has to have one of the Finest voices in the UK.
taking time off from his popular Summer Season Show at 'The Palace Theatre' Steve Laister wowed the audience yet again with his Comedy and Vocal Prowess, Steve has Great Comic timing and is a delight to watch and had the Audience in stitches with his 'Confusious' routine. Young Songstress STEPHANIE COOMBES IS SO TALENTED AND CAn diversify from Chart material to Opera and concluded her Routine with Pavarotti's Ness an Dorma. Former Stairway to the Stars Winner,RYAN JENKINS travelled hotfoot from his Saturday night Gig in Wales to join the show and delighted his audience with three original Songs in a great acoustic set. The Prince of Mirth from Wales took to the stage next with a great Vocal and Comedy set,GARY RICHARDS is surely one of our great 'Welsh Entertainers'he has great stage Presence and a superb 'Quality' Voice. Headlining the Show was Londons Own 'JOE GOODMAN' who literally had the Audience in stitches for nearly an Hour with his Great Comedy Routines,to hear an Audience Belly laughing is a real tonic and its easy to see why 'Joe' is held with such respect by his fellow Peers.
Snooker Legend RAY REARDON made a Cameo Appearance during the show to the delight of his many fans.
The Show Closed with a Sing Song headed by Chris and the Cast, Four Hours of First Class 'Pure' Variety' Entertainment seldom seen these days in one Show. This was the 9th Year the Show has been held at Challaborough Bay and Plans are now afoot for the 10th Year Show in 2010. Same time!!same Place!!!! Hope to See you all there!!!!

Question to Chris:-You have always Championed Young Talent with National Junior Showtime and Junior Stairway to the Stars,is it more difficult these days for young Talent to be Spotted?

Answer:- Im sure there are still many ways 'Real' talent can be spotted altho with the advent of T.Vs X factor, the youngsters have no concept of the hard work that goes into the final Product, thousands apply and go to Auditions, and im sure there is a lot of dissapoinment, but its a tough game and one in a million has the 'X Factor' try telling that to the Mums,Dads,Grannies and Grandads who oviously think their child has what it takes to become a Star. Its hard work and sometimes just a short lived career, its not all Parties and Red Carpets.

Question;- Who most Impressed you as a Youngster?

Answer:- Well there are two who stand out clearly in my memory firstly Dominic Wood who as a younster at College wrote to me and sent a most impressive CV applying for 'Stairway to the Stars' I remember reading the letter and for some reason I had it in my car,I was travelling back from Cardiff and rang him en route and as I was passing Exeter,where he lived and was Studying I asked him to meet me at Dingles Department Store in the City Centre for a coffee, when I met him I was really impressed with his dedication and his likeable personality,he was a 'natural' and I could imagine the Camera Loving him!!! He appeared on the Show, got thro his heat and appeared on the Semi Final, and it was the only time I disagreed with the Panel of Judges,they didnt put him thro to the Grand Final, I made an instant decision and introduced a new category, 'The Producers Choice', and I put him though!!! Well it was my show and I could not let such a Talented Young Artist with so Much Charisma and dedication slip tho the net over ONE point on the Judges marks. He appeared on the Grand Final and did well, assisted by his brother. The following year Local ITV asked me to Nominate two young acts to feature in a Local programme and I nominated Dominic and a young Comedian from Stairway to the Stars Called Matt Slack(who last year Starred again in the Theatre Royal Plymouth'Pantomime for Qudos Productions (The largest Pantomime Producers in the UK) Dominic was able to put a showreel together send to the BBC and the rest is History,'Dick and Dom in the Bungalow', 'Dominic Woods World Of Magic', so im pleased I played a small part in his Career.
The second being Keedie who appeared on Stairway To The Stars and went on to have a Number Two in the UK Charts with Duncan from 'Blue' and has made a Great Solo Album she is Demand World Wide with her incredible Voice. I remeber getting a text from her while I was In jersey to tell me the Record was in the Charts,I was so Proud of her and what she has achieved,its a small World six years ago I was In Sofia in Bulgaria and seeing her name appearing in 'Concert' the day after I was due to fly back to the UK, I was gutted,I would have loved have surprised her by being there.She has an incredible voice and Andrew Lloyed webber obviously saw her talent when he invited her to sing for him, now thats an achievment!!!!!!!!

There have been many more over the years,but one other story springs to mind,when an old mate of mine told me his son was going to be in a Boy Band,nothing happened for a while and a year later im with him in Hastings in Sussex when he Proudly showed me a picture of his young Son in a POP Magazine with this New band,I cannot forget the delight in his eyes as a Proud Father, Indeed I was sharing accommodation with him, we Drank a Bottle Of Whiskey to Celebrate,my mates name, Pete Conway and his Son Was Robbie Williams and again the rest is History. A few years later Pete Came onto the Panel Of Stairway to the Stars for me,and I was proud to be invloved in his TV show, albeit as voice over hehe. Pete Himself a Talented Singer and Comedian (I can see so much of Robbie in his Dad,that cheeky Grin and great personality) Pete was A Winner of New faces a TV talent Show of which Nina Myskow was a Judge,and She was Invloved in my Stairway To The Stars for ten years.
I must make it clear tho I didnt have a hand in Robbies career,I wish I had hehe.He had a good teacher tho in Pete!!! A chip off the old Block!!!!

Another Year has Flown by and Its Nearly time for this Years Re-Union Weekend,9th-11 October,to be held again At Parkdean Holidays Challaborough Bay.

On the Friday Night(arrival Day) for the Children we have 'The High School Mugul Show' with Maxi,Milli,Moonstone and follwing that Chris Presents his Talented Team with A Production of 'SHOWSTOPPERS' featuring, Asley Fowkes,Nat Brinson, Jamie Ferguson,Kirsty McEvoy,Richard Collins.

The Headiners on the Saturday Night will be 'The Legend' RAY LEWIS with his 'Still Driftin Show' back by Popular Demand !!!!!!!!!!!from Last Years Weekend.

The Annual Sunday Lunchtime Show (for adults only, naughty but nice!!) will feature Chris Chambers and Friends in a Variety Packed Show with at least 10 acts on the Bill and Special Guest Appearances.Headlining the Show is the 'Comedians Ccmedian' from many TV appearances and Royal Shows 'JOE GOODMAN' Joe has worked extensively at Home and Abroad,in Theatre, Cruises, and has been the Highlight of Many a Show Biz Function,including The Grand Order of Water Rats,of which JOE is a long standing Member.He will be making a Journey from London specially to appear on the Show.

Question to Chris,...you speak fondly of Wales and your friends there,how did this come about?

Answer:- It started many years ago while I was a Compere and Entertainment Manager for Pontins,I was based at Wall Park in Brixham, we had a loyal following from many guests from Wales. A guest who later was to become along with his Family, one of my greatest Friends, Mac Cookand His wife Margaret were invloved in Local Charity work for The Childrens Heart Circle of Wales, they asked me if I would round up a few Friends and Stage a Gala Night for them. I remember the day and night very well,it was In March early 1980's the day arrived and myself and a few other acts arrived at the venue for a rehearsal with the Band, The late Frazer Lawson and his Band had been booked to back the show,it was at the STAR centre which was a Leisure complex,when I saw the size of it,my heart sank, it was huge and all sorts of things crossed my mind, What if ticket sales were poor? could the show flop in this huge venue, well anyway onward and upward,the great Frazer Lawson band went through my music with me and the other Acts BUT one big worry was the terrible accoustics in the venue, so I asked if blankets could be suspended from the ceiling to help dampen the sound, within minutes Mac and a team of people arrived with hundreds of blankets,,scaffolding, and this mammoth task started, the rehearsals went well and I retired to The Crest Hotel with my friends to get ready for the show.

We were eating at the Hotel and to quell my nerves I ordered several bottles of wine, at the hotel bumped into Emlyn Hughes and we were chatting,drinking and I diidnt realise the time, a Frantic phone call came to the hotel from Mac Cook, Where are you? we need you here!the show is starting in 15 minutes! so we left the Hotel and now I had to remember where the venue was, Graham who was driving, sort of knew roughly where it was and we managed to get to the Gig with a minute to spare. my earlier worries about ticket sales being poor were put to rest,when we arrived the large Car park was full and there was still a queue of people around the car park to get into the show, I found the Backstage entrance,a relieved Mac,was waiting with a large scotch and Coke for me,Within secons I was Introduced, Frazer Lawson and the Band played my intro music and I was on stage, the venue was packed and the show was a huge success, the show ran every year for eleven years,during the time we raised thousands for Charity and it was annual Event that I always looked forward to and over the years many of my dear friends appeared with me on the Show, Ruby Murray,Don D Williams, Johnnie Carrol, Patti Flynn, Paul Levent, Roger Andrew,Graham and Tanya,Mike Doyle, Garry Richard, Richard Beavis, Cassie Collins, Audrey Squires and many many more, yes they were great Nights,Happy memories and I love Wales, later I was to return to Cardiff to appear in St Davids Hall a couple of times, I love that venue, the Welsh Audiences are Great.

on the 2009 Series TV's BIG BROTHER and other TV shows and
Appearances in Las Vegas, Paul will be presenting His own
Mind Baffling show, a Great Opportunity to see this class act.
Saturday 12th September,JIMMY TAMLEY, making his secnod and Final Appearance this
Summer, at Challaborough. Jimmy has appeared on many TV
Shows, and Royal Variety's, A Genuinely Talented and Funny Act

I spend most of my time at the appartment at Challaborough especially during the Summer Months, I still have my House in Torbay which I see for about 20 nights during the year and spend time In Teneriffe,on the North Side of the Island which is very Beautiful.

Why Did you chose Torbay to live?

Answer:- Origially because of work,but fell in love with the place and made many good friends there,at one point the Social life was really good, Sadly Larry (Grayson) and Ruby(Murray) are no longer with us, we had great fun.I dont get back to Torbay very often these days. But some of my lifelong friends are still there and we still have Fun when we meet up.

You Met Prince Charles,what was he like?

Answer:- He was lovely and genuinely interested in what I was doing,we had a great chat,I was with him when he named the Beagle at Dartmouth, which he traditionally does in the Grounds of The Royal Naval College at Dartmouth, he gives the name to the first of the litter,there were only a handful of us there and it was a nice intimate chat, ironically Just after meeting him the second time, a few days after Diana died and six months later I was to Produce the 'Princess Diana' Memorial Concert at the Colliseum. Life is full of twists and turns.

Answer:-
I dont have time and they dont interest me,im too busy doing other things, actually I guess they are fun,but my freinds know how to Contact me without being on there, im not really a Computer Mad Person.

I remember my time at Camber Sands with fondest of memories and met so many wonderful people many of whom im still in contact with and good strong and lasting firndships were made,Over a period of time, this young Lad from Norfolk was to realise his Dreams,meeting and working with Show Biz Legends,Sporting Personalities,and so many Talented Cabarets who were staring their Careers on the Holiday Park Circuit. Joe Longthorne,Iris Williams, Jimmy Cricket,Joe Pasquale, Gary Wilmot,this list just goes on and on.........and the Hundreds of Bluecoats that I worked with over a long period with Pontins. There are so many stories over the years far too many to recount in this interview,There have been highs and lows i guess,but the good times far outweigh the Bad, Ive been asked to do so Many nice things at Home and Abroad,invited to meet Royalty and Present or Produce some Prestigious Shows. Im very Proud of Stairway To The Stars as it ran for a Record Breaking 16 years and was the Countries Number One Talent Search,invloving some Show Biz Legends and Discovering a batch of Entertainers who with the Help of Stairway in their Early Careers are now Firmly Established on the Cabaret Circuits. The last 10years have been a lot quieter of my own choosing, for 16 years I was working seven days a week,hardly any holidays and life is good now, I have some time for myself, but still love what im doing!!!!in October I will be having my Annual re-Union and no doubt will be seeing some Very Dear and Special Friends for a weekend, for one weekend in the year its just like 'Old Times' Ive been a Very Lucky Guy.

So Where did it all start Chris?

Answer...At Pontins Camber Sandss as a very very young lad wanting to get into Show Biz, I learnt my trade working alongside some truly great Pros, My Manager was a lovely guy Pat Braden and an Irish Singer took me under his wing,the great 'Richard Walsh' who I was to work with for a few years. I had the opporunity to work with The Beverly Sisters,Mrs Mills, Hope and Keen,Dick Emery,Keith Harris,the wonderful Carol Lee Scott(Grotbags)Jimmy Jones,Charlie Smithers and the legendary Jimmy Wheeler. I remember our hours were long,start at 9am and sometimes finish at 2 in the morning,it was fun and we even worked on our days off sometimes, a fellow bluecoat was Mike Lawton, who later became Mick Miller,the fun we had was incredible.
I wanted to Compere a show and kept badgering the Entertainment Manager to give me a break and it finally came one Friday Night in the Big Ballroom at Camber,I was going to Present Geoff Winships Mini Circus,was this to be my big break??????
Unfortuantely the Then Entertainment Director,the late David Lever had double booked the show and instead of three acts turning up, six showed,so with my lack of experience I thought this was great and started the Show off, Miss Vera and Her Beautiful Pidgeons, her Italian partner could not speak much English who confued the spotlight Operator who promptly Blinded the pidgeons and they flew into the roof and would not come down, the show had to go on,next, was The skating Meteors and at one point in their act,they got a child from the Audience spun him around and he was immediately sick,Bucket and Mop Job, Eva May Wong was next to appear,a chinese Plate spinner,and while she was appearing the Pidgeons in the roof kept sending her little messages from a great height, next was a Wild Cowboy Act, Rex Roper and Billie who wanted me to Asssist them in their act,by putting a cigarette in my mouth and using the rope at twenty paces to knock it out!!! Whilst all this was going on Cricks Canine Wonders turned up and as the show was running over,I sent them to appear in the Big Bar Downstairs, the Compere there put them on but the room wasnt really suited to this type of act and the dogs went into the Audience, at least that wasnt my problem. The Monkey Act that was on next was however My Problem and because they had been kept waiting for so long, the monkeys were behaving Badly and the whole place was in Chaos,,,,, i did not volunteer my services for a few weeks after that.

Was so saddened to hear that Danny has left us for that 'Big Theatre in the Sky'.
I have many fond Memories of 'Dan' although he has been away from the Spotlights for a while now,he will be fondly remembered by all his Show Biz Mates who loved him and his ever adoring Public.

Sure he was a Character,and a Complete Perfectionist.some would say difficult to work with,there I would disagree,Dan always wanted it 'right'. it was his name at the Top of the Bill and he never gave less then 100% and expected the same from his other Cast Members. The Fans who went to see his Shows always got the 'best', lavish Costumes,and Sets and we must not forget Danny pioneered the way for many of todays Stars by introducing 'Camp' to the General Public in an era when it was not exactly fashionable. Lets also not Forget that Danny was World Famous,and one of the most recognised faces for 50 years,now thats a 'Star'

There are so many stories about Danny,but I will always remember one particular Day in the 1980's,Dustin Gee who was a very dear friend of Mine,was Starring in Summer Season at The Princess Theatre in Torquay when he had a Heart attack and was admitted To Torbay General Hospital ICU, I called in to see him three days after his attack when he was able to see Family and Friends,was sat at his bedside having a chat,when we heard the booming unmistakeable voice of Dan coming down the corridor, Dan always made a Big Entrance, and there he was standing in the doorway of the ICU holding what appeard to be Half the Chelsea Flower Show, I have never seen a Bouguet of Flowers so big!! he greeted us with a "Hello Darlings" and the rule of one to a bed in ICU suddenly dissapeared,It was hurting Dustin to laugh and for an hour Danny 'held court' recounting some of the funniest stories,in the end we were asked to leave by the Sister because she thought the strain was too much for Dustin,We both left and between the ICU and the main door Danny must have signend 50 Autographs and even went into the Wards to say Hello and give the patients a few laughs.It took us over an hour to get out of the Hospital

He was a Generous guy,both with his time for people, and His Charity work particularly for The Grand Order Of Water Rats,over the years Danny has raised Millions of Pounds for the less fortunate. He was Kind,Caring and a Dog lover,his mates will well remember little 'Jonty' who went everywhere with him. He arrived at one theatre in Scotland and the stage door keeper said to him, "im sorry Mr La Rue no dogs allowed backstage",Dan retorted "No Dog No Dan" and proceeded to get back into the car,needless to say,the Rules were suddenly changed and Danny appeared for his Show, with Jonty waiting for him in his Dressing Room.

I remember doing a Show with Him and the Australian Pianist Wayne King, and a Host of Stars, the occasion was The Falklands Task Force Appeal Show, which I was Presenting,he was only making a Cameo Apperance but the ovation from the audience was so great we were treated to a completely Impromptu 'Danny Special' not in the frock I hasten to add,and needless to say the show overran!!!!!!!!!much to the delight of his fans,yes he was a generous guy,and after the show,although he was tired,he stayed and socialised with all the Navy Personnel,i think we left at 4 in the morning!! He had a couple of Hours sleep and then had to leave at 6 to appear on GMTV live.

The last period in his life out of the Public gaze was spent with Annie,who for many years had made all his Glam costumes I know she will miss him terribly.

Danny lit up our lives for many many years and no doubt he will probably be Topping The Bill in that great Theatre in the Sky. for us back here ,we will miss you Danny.
